CONFERENCE TITLE AND THEME - SIGLO XXI: The State of Latino Studies
This conference will examine the contemporary state of Latino Studies and the variety of political, economic, cultural and institutional forces affecting its growth and its ability to strive in the American academy. What is the continued role of interdisciplinary fields? What new opportunities and challenges have ensued from these new reconfigurations of Latino Studies? What new questions, theoretical paradigms, topics and concepts have surfaced or been undermined (replaced) as a result of these new larger comparative conversations. In sum, what is next?

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PRESENT AND HOW TO REGISTER
We are primarily inviting faculty to submit a two-page abstract and a 1-2 page curriculum vita (CV) for review by the IUPLR Program Committee. While the conference is primarily oriented toward faculty, we will also consider proposals from advanced graduate students at the dissertation stage. Abstract submission is now closed.
SELECTION PROCESS AND CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
The Program Committee will meet to select papers and create panels of not more than four papers each with a discussant or discussants. Each selected participant will be expected to submit a finished paper by Friday, August 15, 2009 to allow sufficient time for distribution and reading by discussants. Travel and accommodations are the responsibility of each panelist or their institutional sponsorship.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
The conference registration fee is $75. However, students are free with proof of enrollment after registration. You can register online at this link or by sending your registration form and payment by regular mail.
TRAVEL AND LODGING
All registered participants are responsible for making their own lodging and transportation arrangements. However, we secured a block of rooms at the rate of $169 per night plus taxes at the Marriott Chicago at the Medical District/UIC, located at 625 South Ashland Avenue at Harrison Street, Chicago, Illinois 60607, the phone number there is 312-491-1234.
